Ponwith Family Named 2025 Le Sueur County Farm Family

The Ponwith family of Cleveland, Minnesota, has been named the 2025 Le Sueur County Farm Family of the Year, and Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom (MAITC) is proud to celebrate one of our very own, Emily Ponwith, Recourse Specialist, alongside her family for this well-deserved honor.

Since 1862, the Ponwiths have been deeply rooted in agriculture. Today, Ryan and Emily Ponwith, fifth-generation farmers, are raising four children while growing corn and soybeans, raising Angus cattle, and using conservation-minded practices like strip-till, no-till, and cover crops to preserve their land for generations to come. Beyond the field, they are active business owners, volunteers, and community advocates committed to making agriculture more accessible and sustainable.

Advancing Agricultural Literacy in Classrooms and Communities

Emily Ponwith brings her passion for agriculture and education to every aspect of her work. As a former elementary school teacher, Emily now serves as a Resource Specialist for MAITC, supporting educators across South Central Minnesota in bringing agriculture into their classrooms. She helps teachers use MAITC resources to make learning relevant and meaningful by connecting standards-based instruction with real-life agriculture.

"During my time in the classroom, I enjoyed using Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom resources," said Emily. "Over the years, my students have loved learning about agriculture and asking questions about our farm.”

Emily’s firsthand experience on the farm gives her a unique and valuable perspective that resonates with educators and students alike. She is a natural connector, and her work continues to inspire curiosity, foster understanding, and empower future generations to value agriculture.

Thank You, Emily and the Ponwith Family

Emily’s recognition as part of the Le Sueur County Farm Family of the Year highlights the deep impact she and her family have on agriculture both in and outside the classroom. Whether she is presenting a workshop, working cattle, mentoring students, or building community relationships, Emily leads with purpose and heart.

We are grateful for Emily’s dedication to advancing our mission and proud to have her as part of the MAITC team. Congratulations to the entire Ponwith family, and thank you for sharing your story, your land, and your love of learning with others.
